Report Distribution based on SQL Query in RDL

I need to create multiple reports with each report being sent to the specified user. For example, 3 Managers should each get their own report. A Stored Procedure receives a ManagerID parameter, so I need 3 instances of the report. I also need each report to be sent to its associated Manager:

Mgr ID Manager Name 1 John Q Manager 2 Jane Q Manager 3 Jack O Lantern

I set up a rss file to run the report and can run it multiple times, passing in a different ID value each time, but it will not be data driven because I must hard-code the parameters in the ReportParmaters object of the report for each execution.

Is there a way, either by designing the report in VS2005 or on the Reporting Services server, to accomplish what I'm intending to do?

Did you already have a look on the datadriven subscription option in Reporting Services ? That would exactly fit your needs.

Report Columns

Hi,
I have a detailed report with 60 columns. How can user hide some columns in
reportviewer?
For example if he is interested in 5 columns, is it possible for him to hide
rest 45 col. automaticly?
ThanksHi,
if you are using a table control on your report you can use the Visibility
property. Using this property you can either specify an expression or specify
another control in the report to toggle the visibility of the column. If you
want the user to decide about visibility I'd go for the control, if you wish
to do it I'd suggest an expression evaluating the current Windows
user(WindowsIdentity)

Report Builder Parameter Dependency

Dear Anyone,

Is it possible in report builder that for a report parameter to have a dependency on another report parameter?

Example:

Parameter 1: Country

Parameter 2: City

The selects a country called Philippines. When the user tries to select the specific city, only the cities that are under the selected country will be displayed.

Thanks,

Joseph

No, this is not possible in Report Builder parameters. You would need to import the report into Report Designer.

Report Builder imported questions from a customer

Hi,
1. If a table has a relation to itself example :
employee id emp name manager id
1 Melissa 2
2 Steven 100
This means Steven is the manager of Melissa.
Is it possible to make a report in Report Builder to have a list with of the
managers and their employees?
2.Following example in report builder an organization with his employees you
will see in Report builder this : (organization will appear only once)
Microsoft Steven
Melissa
BMW Jan
Els
In export to xls the customer wants to see this :
Microsoft Steven
Microsoft Melissa
BMW Jan
BMW Els
Is this possible?
And if a certain organization does not have employees they want to see this
organization for the moment the report only list organizations with employees?
3. If the email field of a person (table 1) is empty they want to see in the
report the email field of the organization (table 2) is this possible with
the function if then else... in the creation of a new field without having
fields of the organization in the report displayed?"carolineb" <carolineb@.discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message

Write query like this:
select
c2.Name as ManagerMame,
c1.*
from Employees c1
left join Employees c2
on c2.EmployeeID = c1.ManagerID
order by c1.ReportsTo

As far as I know this is not possible (export should be WYSIWYG if it is
working correctly)

Yes it is possible, you don't have to display all fields.

caroline : I have tried to do this and was only allowed to use fields of one
table in the if then else function, he did allowed to select a field from
another table in the if then else but indicated with an error message that
the function is not valid?

Report Builder and Custom Value in TextBox

How can I add a custom value in a textbox. For example, I would like to add
a footer with a page number, date and the name of the user who's running the
report.Right click on the textbox and choose Expression. Everything you need is
under Globals. Well basic VB script knowledge is needed to put all together
though.

"http://YourReportServer/Reports/", you'll be able to see "New Folder", "New
Data Source", "Upload File", And "Report Builder" below the two tabs
"Contents" & "Properties".
You may want to go to the links below to get more info about Report Builder.

start the text with "=". However, you are basically working blind, because
there is no direct visibility into report field names, textbox names, etc.
Also, page headers/footers are not supported in this release. Best bet is to
put the page count, report date, username, etc. at the top and bottom of the
report, so it will be on the first and last pages.

Report across multiple db

Can I use BIDS to create a report that will cross other DB's and servers?
For example - I have a customer DB that has social security #'s on Server1
DB-abc and I want to link to another server Server2 DB-efg - and create a
report with data elements from both DB's.yes, create a Linked Server to the second DB Server. After that you have the
possibility to create a view getting the data from both DB's. build the
report on this view and you are done.
hope this helps.

heterogenous join you will be pulling a massive amount of data locally. With
SQL 2000 it would do this sometimes even when the query was all on a single
remote database as I found out when I went against a large table. SQL 2005
is better at this but you will still see issues with heterogenous joins.
Linked tables are easy to use but dangerous.
One suggestion, do not use four part naming. Use openquery instead. Limit
the data as much as possible bringing it into a temp table and then do your
join there.
