Report does not render

When I go out to Reports I can see the reports but when you click on
them all yo get is the properties tab and they will not render. If I
go out the the Reportsserver they will run fine. Is there a reason
why they will not give me the option to render?Just two things, check for the access from the RM, and clear the cache and
then try deploy and run the report. I faced the same before.

Report Designer deletes MDX when opening data tab

Hi!
I've got some problems with a few reports I've made. The MDX queries of the
datasets are quite complex, so I have turned off design mode when working
with them. Of course, design mode won't work anymore, but Report Designer
has understood this until now and disabled design mode when I've swapped to
the data tab. Recently though, it doesn't understand it anymore, and enters
design mode, effectively removing the MDX, if I go to the data tab.
(Removing is not quite true, it changes to an empty "select {} on 0 from
mycube" query)
I have to do more modifications to the MDX, so to keep working with my
reports I have to manually modify the XML source if I need a new field for
instance.
Tried installing VS '05 SP 1 and SQL Server '05 SP 2, but it still does the
same.
I've had the problem once before, then I solved it by comparing with an
older version - where the query definition xml elements had a slightly
different order - and setting the same order in the new version. Of course,
the elements are re-ordered when I save the reports, so I have to do this
each time.. I won't.. :P
Any ideas? Are there any hint I can include in the XML to tell the designer
to lay off my query?
Lars-ErikHello Erik,
I would like to know whether you could modify the Code of your report VS.
If so, you may try to modify the code.
Also, please verify that you have installed the SQL Server 2005 SP2
correctly.
I found a similar issue and it has been resolved in SQL 2005 SP1.
909535 FIX: A query disappears in the MDX query designer, and you cannot
modify a report in Layout view when you create the report in Business
Intelligence Development Studio in SQL Server 2005
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;909535
Could you please verify that?
If you have a SQL 2005 SP1 installed machine, did this issue appear on that
machine?

Not sure what code you mean by code. I can modify the RDL using the "open
code" from the context menu in solution expl., and I can modify the custom
code of the report. Modifying the RDL using code view is what I've done to
add fields now.
I've now got Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services Designers Version
9.00.3042.00 installed.
I checked the info in the KB article, and now I'm a bit stumped. I was sure
I had <QueryDefinition .../> elements in the dataset definitions, but
somewhere along the road they've disappeared. I've had to update two query
definitions in one dataset before while the problem existed. One of my
reports still have the element (on one line) and I can modify the query in
the data designer as I should.
I can modify my reports in layout view though, so not sure if all the info
in the KB are relevant.
With this information I can probably do a compare with older versions, get
back the QueryDefinition elements, update any old info, verify one line, and
get it working again. What worries me is that the behavior probably comes
back, since it's done so before.. Any ideas on how I can ensure stability?
I have to mention a couple of other points that might influence this:
- I do modify the RDL manually because I have 14-15 drillthrough actions in
each report that are too complex to handle using the designer. (I generate
XML for the <action> elements from a matrix with complex formulas in Excel)
- There's an issue with line breaks VS keeps suggesting to fix, and does,
but it comes back for some reason. (might be a difference created when
saving on different machines)

Thanks for the follow-up.
I made the reports with no SP installed. (About said RTM something)
Have had the same issue with other reports, but think they've been behaving
properly after some repairing.
Have not tried to repair my reports yet, I'll do the extra hours I need to
repair them some time soon. If the queries disappear again, I'll create a
new post.

Report Dataset is lost once the Data Tab is clicked

1. Created a New Report Server Wizard Project using OLAP as datasource
2. Gone through the wizard steps to generate a matrix report.
3. All is fine and the report gets previewed. I build and deploy the report.
4. Now , if I need to add a new column I go to data tab of the report. Realize that the query is lost and now the report throws exception like the following when rebuild:

" [rsFieldReference] The Value expression for the textbox ‘Base_Premium’ refers to the field ‘Base_Premium’. Report item expressions can only refer to fields within the current data set scope or, if inside an aggregate, the specified data set scope."
5. No idea why the query given at the query builder stage of the wizard is lost

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Create a new Report Server Wizard Project
2. Create a new datasource using OLAP as datasource
3. Add the report data fields (query builder)
4. Select matrix report format and any style
5. Select the row, col and data fields.
6. complete the wizard.
7. Save, build and deploy the project
8. Preview the report.
9. Now try to add a new column to the report by clicking the data tab.

Actual Results:

The sql prepared from the query builder is lost and all the columns previously selected disappear. The report throws exception in preview mode something like :

" [rsFieldReference] The Value expression for the textbox ‘Base_Premium’ refers to the field ‘Base_Premium’. Report item expressions can only refer to fields within the current data set scope or, if inside an aggregate, the specified data set scope."

Expected Results:

Should be able to modify the report any number of times after it is initially generated.

Report being generated never shows second report

I have a VS2005 Windows application that displays a reportviewer (SQL 2005) report in a tab control, then displays a second report in a second tab with reportviewer, and so on. The really strange thing is that I had this application working for about 3 months. I even had up to 30 reports in 30 tabs at one point. BUT, for some reason now all I get is the first report and the second, third, etc. tabs show a reportviewer with "Report being generated" that never displays the report. Even worse, another user is able to run this application and DOES get all the reports displayed. So what could have been updated on my PC that is causing this problem?

Thanks in advance.

The obvious question to ask is what's changed? Have you installed any service packs or updates recently? Maybe it was some new software?|||

I was hoping someone else could tell me what installations might cause this problem, because I can't be 100% sure what updates have been done to my PC. Our Network Services group pushes updates and with MS always forcing updates, it's difficult nowadays to know what's going on on your own PC. Anyway, in January, I installed Red Gate's SQL Prompt 3 and Net Services pushed McAfee OAS. I don't know the exact day Report Viewer stopped working, but I'm pretty sure it was working after these installs. The SQL Server/SSRS 2005 is running on SP1, my client SQL is on SP1. Here's the header info in the most recent SSRS log:

<OSVersion>5.2.3790.65536</OSVersion>

Here are the last few lines in this log, that show me trying to run 2 reports. It looks like it does the same processing for both reports here, but it just can't display the report in the viewer.

Report appearance issues

I have 2 issues wih the appearance of my report both in the preview tab and when I deploy.

1. My report contains a subreport and the subreport appears indented from the left edge of the main report. How can I stop this? I won't the subreport to be aligned with the main report.
2. The last column of my report is stretched to the edge of the page even though I have all my cells set to CanGrow = false. How can I stop this?

Any help is appreciated.
I solved this one myself. The subreport's body was wider than the main report's body and as I have the table centred on both reports the subreport appeared indented. As soon as I made both report's body width the same the subreport aligned with the main report correctly. I also set every cell in the table in both reports to CanGrow = false and that stopped the last column stretching to the edge of the page.
