together.
SELECT section, a.header1, a.header2
, SUM(ISNULL(a.hours ,0) + ISNULL(b.hours ,0) + ISNULL(c.hours ,0))
,ISNULL(a.hours ,0)
,ISNULL(b.hours ,0)
ISNULL(c.hours ,0)

LEFT JOIN table 2 on a.id = b.id
LEFT JOIN table 3 on a.id = c.id

The grouping would also need to be declared in the report output
with a sum function going in the group footer.
Good luck|||Thanks William,
ur method was very helpful for me.....
One problem though is the date field is dynamic, so can i use a matrix
instead of a table and get that design
Thanks for ur time and understanding....

Report Date Error
Back in 2004, 'Lisa' posted this question. I'm having exactly the same
issue. No resolution was proposed at that time. If anyone can help me out,
I'd appreciate it greatly!
-- begin quoted message --
Hi,
I have a report set up that is used by multiple users who have subscriptions
set up on it. One user gets the following error when she tries to run it and
the subscription she set up fails:
Info:
Microsoft.ReportingServices.ReportProcessing.ReportProcessingException:
Cannot read the next data row for the data set CustomerDB. -->
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: The conversion of char data type to
smalldatetime data type resulted in an out-of-range smalldatetime value.
She is the only user that gets this error and she is set up the same as the
other ones on the reporting server. There is nothing in the report that is
user specific and no formulas that involve a date so I'm really not sure
where this message is coming from. When she logs onto the report from a
different computer it works fine, but if anyone tries logging in and running
the report from her computer it doesn't work. I checked her browser settings
and they are the same as everyone elses.
I'm out of ideas, so any help would be greatly appreciated!
--
Thanks!
ChrisCheck to see what her regional & language options are.
You will find these defined in the control panel.
Be sure they match what they are supposed to be - in other words - check the
machine where it is running fine vs. the values on this machine for the
regional & langage options.
If this is english and you are in the U.S. then click the button "Customize"
(On the regional options tab in the dialog for Regional and Language Options
box) and verify that those settings also match on the machines that are
running fine.

Thanks - this solved the problem. Her computer was configured to English -
Canadian instead of English - US. Changing it to English - US fixed the
problem.
Thanks again!

Report calling a Stored procedure taking too much time while
I have a CLR stored proceudure than runs under 2 or 3 mins when run in management studio. But when the report calls the same SP, it runs in around 30 mins and the CPU usage goes to 90 or 100% and the sqlserver service uses massive amount of memory. Previously the report worked fine, only after made a few data driven subscriptions and redeployed the reports with minor changes that it began to happen.
Please help--Iam stumped.
There are no infinite loops in the report. I checked.
I suggest you use the SQL Server Profiler to see what queries are sent to the database. Also, take a look at the ExecutionLog table in the ReportServer database to find how much time is spent in data retrieval.|||All the time is spent in data retrievel while the same SP in management studio takes far less time ? I can't understand whats happening
|||Also if i cancel the running jobs from Report Manager, they automatically restart after sometime? Any clues?
|||Perhaps, debugging the stored procedure would help to find what's happening
|||Sounds like you're running into issues with query plan; it is not uncommon to see this difference when running in Mgmt Studio vs. running in reports.
I recommend reading up on query performance:
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms187032.aspx
There are a couple of common problems people have with queries in stored procs (especially). These can often be fixed using the WITH RECOMPILE directive. This is especially true if the size of data your return from a test query is significantly different than that in the production query.
Secondly, if you reference other database objects in your query, using fully qualified names (dbo.storedProcName), you can also get some benefits.
Hope this helps,
-Lukasz

Report Builder Reports Filtering or Grouping at runtime possible?
options at execution time not design time for report builder reportsGo to
http://www.msbicentral.com/Downloads/ReportingServices/RDLFiles/tabid/34/Default.aspx.
You'll have to register for a free login. There is an example of sorting at
run time, there may be one for filtering also.

Report Builder and Oracle Database?
I'm trying to use the report builder for the first time.
Is there a way to create an Oracle datasource in a report model project
?
Thanks,
PannaHi Panna,
AFAIK, Oracle is not supported currently, although it may be supported in a
future.
You can try linking the Oracle server to SQL Server using the Linked Servers
option in SQL Server. However, I've not tried this and I'm not sure if it
will work, actually. I'm not sure all the T-SQL syntax generated by the
Semantic Engine is available for linked servers.
HTH, however.

Report Builder 401 Errors since SP1
Internet successfully for some time now but today I am receiving 401 errors
when I try to launch Report Builder. The details show a 401 error
"Unauthorized". This all worked fine until I installed SQL 2005 SP1.
Has anybody run into this before or any suggestions. I can still run saved
reports just fine, it is only the launch of Report Builder that fails.
Thanks, MikeWe got this from Report Manager after we installed Microsoft Windows
Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1).
http://support.microsoft.com/Default.aspx?kbid=896861 solved our
problem.

Report Builder
I have tried using the report builder for the first time by clicking on it from the report manager.
I am not able to proceed ahead because of the error .
The error occured when i start the application . The details log shows me this error.
Error :
Exception occurred loading manifest from file ReportBuilder.exe: the manifest may not be valid or the file could not be opened.
+ File ReportBuilder.exe is not a valid Portable Executable (PE) file.
+ PE file does not have enough data.
Has the .NetFramework 2.0 been installed successfully? Additionally, check version of Reporting Services and ensure you are running RTM version.
If you can, let me know build topology and client build.

Report Builder
from SQL Server 2000 to 2005. When I first strated trying to post models I
created I was getting an error that I didn't have the required permissions.
I then found that I needed to create a role with model permissions and was
able to post the model. Now, when I design a report with report builder and
try to run it I get the same error which says:
"The permissions granted to user xxxxx are insufficient for performing this
operation. (rsAccessDenied)"
I have given myself every permission available on that model. Does anyone
know what I need to change?
One other small problem is that the Report Builder icon is not showing up in
the portal. The only way that I can get to it is to go directly to the URL:
http://<servername>/reportserver/reportbuilder/reportbuilder.application
That works fine except, of course, when I get the error that I get when I
try to actually run a report. Any help on these two issues would be greatly
appreciated.
Thanks,
TjI just saved the report in report builder to the portal and was able to run
it from the portal so the only time I get the error is when trying to run
the report from within Report Builder.
Also Report Builder icon still not showing up in portal.

That has something to do with user security settings :-S
I noticed this once before. When I set the website to allow anonymous access
the builder button was gone, when I am administrator and not allow anonymous
access the button was there.
That's all I know, it may help you a little...

repltype
I am doing replication first time .i am having 4 master tables which want to
replicate to remote location through vpn connectivity.and the tables contain
around 5 lakhs of master records.i want to replicate each modified
datas.which type of replication i have to use here, snapshot, transactional or
merge.waiting for valid
suggestion,please help
Thanks
I don't know what a lakh is but it shouldn't change things much - it sounds
like transactional replication is what you need. Just to confirm - this'll be
fine if the subscriber doesn't need to update the data.
