Report Builder Permissions

Hi there,

I created a System Role: Report Builder User (checked "Execute Report Definitions")

Created a folder Home/FolderName/ReportModels

Created a Report Model, deployed it to the above folder.

The are a few users we would like them to run the report model, they belong to a windows group.

I assigned The "Report Builder User" to this Group.

The issue I have that when they run the Report Builder they get a login window (which then doesn't let them to continue).

I managed to overcome this by assiging to this group a "Browser" role at the Home level.

If I remove this assignment and set it in one level underneath the Home folder they can't run the Report Builder.

We don't want them to be able to view the folders at this level, Is there any other option besides setting the Browser role at the Home folder?

I believe users need to have at least Browser permission on all the parent folders of a given folder in addition to the folder itself. So yes, they will need to have permission to the Home folder. However, this will not (by itself) allow them to see subfolders of the Home folder to which they do not have permission. So you should still be able to hide the folders you don't want them to see.

I can see report builder in IE (I am report admin), but my users are not able to, despite having ticked 'report builder' against their name in folder security.

They have
Browser, Report Builder

Why can't they see it?

"Site Settings - Security - Config sys wide role defs - sys user " has "execute report defs" ticked.

Anyone, hmm?

They also need to be listed as System Users under Site Settings. In Report Manager (IE) click on Site Settings / Configure Site-Wide Security / Add a new role assignment with the userid and grant them System User status. Have the user refresh IE and they should see the Report Builder icon.

An AD group is assigned one or more roles. e.g. 'browser','content manager'

How is it they are able to access the RS if they are not part of 'system user'?|||the solution:

create an AD group called report builder - add all your users who require RB access to this in IE, report manager: site settings - site wide security - new role assignment - enter ADReportBuilderGroupname and tick "system user"

report builder button missing

I have setup the RS on production server ( a named instance). The report
builder button is missing. I only can see new folder, new data source, upload
button on the http://servername/reports$instancename/Pages/Folder.aspx. I
have given myself all the rights in role setting.
I have searched in google. However only found something saying "by setting
the report server system property EnableReportDesignClientDownload to true".
However not found anything saying how to do that. checked every sql 2005
configuration tool. Not found anything to let you set that property.
Besides I have tried using
http://<servername>/reportserver/reportbuilder/reportbuilder.application
launched reportbuilder. And got permission ...insufficient (rsAccessDenied).

Go to Site Settings from the Report Manager page. Select 'Configure
system-level role definitions'
and edit an existing system role or create a new system role that
includes the Execute Report Definitions task. Then make sure your
user ID is assigned that system role.
