Report Deployment

We have a "Change Management" Dept that MUST deploy all reports into
Production. I have the same ability from my machine and I can deploy the
solution (or each individual project) without problems (but they don't like
it since I am just a developer).
When CM deploys (they take my solution file and hit "Deploy") the
credentials to all of the data sources is removed so that we have to go into
Report Viewer and add back in the credentials.
So basically, why do I NOT have any problems deploying the solution and data
sources (credentials = a service account), yet CM takes a copy of my solution
and they cannot deploy the data sources with credentials?
Any thoughs appreciated. It is how it is configured in VS. They have it to overwrite data sources and
you do not. They should not be configured this way and they can change it.
Right mouse click on each project, properties, set the overwritedatasources
property to false (if you look for yours it is set to false). That is the
default so they must have changed it.

report builder button missing

I have setup the RS on production server ( a named instance). The report
builder button is missing. I only can see new folder, new data source, upload
button on the http://servername/reports$instancename/Pages/Folder.aspx. I
have given myself all the rights in role setting.
I have searched in google. However only found something saying "by setting
the report server system property EnableReportDesignClientDownload to true".
However not found anything saying how to do that. checked every sql 2005
configuration tool. Not found anything to let you set that property.
Besides I have tried using
http://<servername>/reportserver/reportbuilder/reportbuilder.application
launched reportbuilder. And got permission ...insufficient (rsAccessDenied).
My project due tomorrow. Please Help!! really appreciate it!!On May 29, 5:02 pm, Daisy <diy...@.msnews.group.post> wrote:

Go to Site Settings from the Report Manager page. Select 'Configure
system-level role definitions'
and edit an existing system role or create a new system role that
includes the Execute Report Definitions task. Then make sure your
user ID is assigned that system role.

Replication: Change Distributor

Hello,
I need to change the distributor role from one production server to another
new server. I have 15 servers replicating (transactional) to one central
server, which is the distributor too. Of course, I want to change this role
to another new server.
I have been tested some processes in order to do that, many of them were
certains but I want to know the correct process which is supported by MS.
Thank you a lot.
Maria Pia Fernandez
Maria,
you can deduce the supported path from BOL - the section "Strategies for
Backing Up and Restoring Snapshot and Transactional Replication". The whole
process can be made simpler by preventing any access to the system, then
syncing all subscribers, then backing up the databases (master, msdb,
distribution) on the distributor. You can then restore the databases.
Remember that the server name must be identical for this to work.
Cheers,
Paul Ibison SQL Server MVP, www.replicationanswers.com
|||To change the distributor you must drop all subscriptions and publications
and then configure the new distributor and all publishers to use this
distributor. Then recreate you publications and subscriptions. Ensure that
the distributor is clustered.

I need to maintain the old distributor!!!! I mean I need to change some
production publications in order to use another new distributor. So, this
new distributor will not have the same name.
Besides, I cant stop replicating, I can stop one of them and change its
distributor and so on.

replication, mirroring and log ship

dear all,

I have a case.

I have 1 production server and wanto to add 1 more server.

my production server is using sql 2000 stnd edition.

I want to have an indentical database from my production server.

the problem is my second server is using sql 2005 stnd edition.

I have try to use replication but because the my production database didn't have relationship on the database so I can't use transaction replication, I can't use mirroring and log ship too because the sql use the different version.

any idea or suggestion will be great....

regards,

-dedys

Transactional replication should work fine as it supports replicating between servers within two versions of each other.

The only thing that would prevent you from using transactional replication is if you have tables that do not have primary keys.

As far as log shipping goes. You can configure log shipping from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2005, because 2000 backups can be restored to 2005. You can not configure it the other way around.

|||

dear sir,

I already try to configure log ship on my server.

my primary server is on sql2000 and the secondary server is on sql 2005.

I find that on sql 2000 can't see the sql 2005.

do you have documentation regarding this. a web link ?

thanks

From within Management Studio on 2005, you can point and click through the GUI and setup log shipping from 2000 to 2005. You can also just create three jobs manually and accomplish the same thing. hi,

I have tries to set log shipping from 2000 to 2005 but it seem can't be done.

example : Server A is 2005 and B is 2000

I'm using management studio from A and register B. but when I right click on the database B, I can't find log shipping.

so I can't configure log shipping from 2000 to 2005.

if you know how to set it. could you share it with me.

I also try to do it manually like you said. using 3 simple step.

step 1 and 2 is done. I have difficulties with step 3. that is restoring the transaction log.

do you know how to restore transaction log more that 2 files at the same time or the name is keep on changing ?

please advice

hi mr michael,

I have tries but I still got problem.

the step that did,

restore fullbackup to other server.

then restore the transaction log one by one and at the last transaction log with recovery option.

that's part is ok.

but when I want add more transaction log, there is an error that said :

Msg 3117, Level 16, State 4, Line 1

The log or differential backup cannot be restored because no files are ready to rollforward.

Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Line 1

RESTORE LOG is terminating abnormally.

please advice
