report does not display data

Hi friends
i created a very simple report (VS 2005 standard edition). which works fine.
i added a new column to the underlying table (actually its view) . this column's data is combinations of 2 other varchar columns.
when i added this column to my report, for some reason , report does not display any data when i run the report!! actually there is data as i run that view in query analyzer.
any ideas how to resolve this issue or investigate this problem ?
Thanks for your helplooks like i need to refresh "refesh fields" .after that everything worked nicelysql

report builder, which edition of 2005?

My question:
Does the end-user reporting tool (report builder) in Sql Server 2005 exist
in the Standard Version or is it only in the Enterprise Version?
I have found a couple of conflicting articles on the web.
Thanks in advance.Just Enterprise.
Not sure about development version. Previously that version was identical to
enterprise.

Report Builder - Editing existing report

I am working on SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition.

I have prepared a new model and based on that I prepated few reports using Report Builder. Now, I need to edit existing report to apply few more filter and new column. For that I am opening report in to Report Builder and applying new filters and adding new attribute. Everything is set. I will save this report.

Now strange thing happens....while saving this report, I am getting following error, I am not sure where this textbox4 is available on report. All attributes available on report are unique and not repeated on report anywhere.

System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: More than one report item in the report has the name ‘textbox4’. So far I have tried lot of other options and other report, but I am not able to edit any of the existing report and getting same error. Please help if you have any hint about this.

I'm having this same problem. How can we be expected to create reports & modify if the client isn't smart enough to name textboxes uniquely. I get the error listed below in a messagebox (with a similar exception in the log files). All I do is open the report and try to save it. Can anyone from Microsoft (or anyone who has encountered and resolved) provide direction on this?

Dan

We have not heard of anyone else running into this. Will you use http://connect.microsoft.com to file a bug? Please attach the report (.rdl), model (.smdl), and data source view (.dsv).

Thanks for the response. It doesn't occur every time, just with 1 or 2 specific reports.

I'm trying to see what I can do to reproduce it now. I was planning on submitting a bug when I can figure out what exactly causes it.

After I installed Developer edition I can't find Reporting services report
builder.
How can I create a new report?
ThanksIt will be a add-in in your Visual Studio .net IDE.
To start working:
Open ur VS.Net IDE and open a new solution
A ' New Project' windows will pop up in which u have to select 'Business
Intelligence project' folder and then select Report Project Wizard.
Hope this helps!

Clicking the button will launch the click-once installation and start Report
Builder. In the current CTP, you will need to have the .NET Framework 2.0
Beta 2 already installed on your client machine to run Report Builder.

am trying to build a semantic layer pointing at a datasource other than
SQL Server, but the pull down listbox for Provider: has SQLClient Data
Provider selected and is disabled. Has anyone built a layer with
Oracle?

Reporing Services not responding

I am having a problem with Reporting Services. I had installed the developer
edition on my system and everything was working fine. Next day, turned my
system on and the report manager no longer responds. I can't access any of
the reports I had developed...nothing.
I am a newbie at reporting services but was making great progress learning
the product. The only indication of a problem I can find is in my event log.
I see that I am getting a SuperSocket bind failed on port 1433.
I have attempted removing and re-installing reporting services, as well as
to delete the reporting services databases but cannot seem to run this
product any more.
Can anyone help point me to what may be wrong? From the error message you are getting "SuperSocket bind failed on port
1433", i would say to have a look and see if your sql server is running

check my SQL Server installation. That is all working just fine.
I have also been able to track down in the HTTP logs that when I attempt to
access Report Manager, I am getting a 302 error.

replication, mirroring and log ship

dear all,

I have a case.

I have 1 production server and wanto to add 1 more server.

my production server is using sql 2000 stnd edition.

I want to have an indentical database from my production server.

the problem is my second server is using sql 2005 stnd edition.

I have try to use replication but because the my production database didn't have relationship on the database so I can't use transaction replication, I can't use mirroring and log ship too because the sql use the different version.

any idea or suggestion will be great....

regards,

-dedys

Transactional replication should work fine as it supports replicating between servers within two versions of each other.

The only thing that would prevent you from using transactional replication is if you have tables that do not have primary keys.

As far as log shipping goes. You can configure log shipping from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2005, because 2000 backups can be restored to 2005. You can not configure it the other way around.

|||

dear sir,

I already try to configure log ship on my server.

my primary server is on sql2000 and the secondary server is on sql 2005.

I find that on sql 2000 can't see the sql 2005.

do you have documentation regarding this. a web link ?

thanks

-dedys

|||You can't connect to and manage a 2005 instance from within Enterprise Manager. You can go the other way. Log shipping is nothing more than configuring jobs to backup the tran log, copy it to the secondary, and restore it on a recurring basis. From within Management Studio on 2005, you can point and click through the GUI and setup log shipping from 2000 to 2005. You can also just create three jobs manually and accomplish the same thing. I'm not sure what documentation you are looking for. The 2005 Books Online have step-by-step procedures for setting up log shipping.|||

hi,

I have tries to set log shipping from 2000 to 2005 but it seem can't be done.

example : Server A is 2005 and B is 2000

I'm using management studio from A and register B. but when I right click on the database B, I can't find log shipping.

so I can't configure log shipping from 2000 to 2005.

if you know how to set it. could you share it with me.

I also try to do it manually like you said. using 3 simple step.

step 1 and 2 is done. I have difficulties with step 3. that is restoring the transaction log.

do you know how to restore transaction log more that 2 files at the same time or the name is keep on changing ?

please advice

-dedys

|||You can't restore more than 1 tran log simultaneously. Just like you can't restore more than one of any backup at the same time to the same database. You have to restore 1 log and then the next and then the next etc.|||

hi mr michael,

I have tries but I still got problem.

the step that did,

restore fullbackup to other server.

then restore the transaction log one by one and at the last transaction log with recovery option.

that's part is ok.

but when I want add more transaction log, there is an error that said :

Msg 3117, Level 16, State 4, Line 1

The log or differential backup cannot be restored because no files are ready to rollforward.

Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Line 1

RESTORE LOG is terminating abnormally.

please advice

|||You have to restore all transaction logs using the NORECOVERY option. As soon as you recover the database, you can no longer restore tran logs.
