report does not display data

Hi friends
i created a very simple report (VS 2005 standard edition). which works fine.
i added a new column to the underlying table (actually its view) . this column's data is combinations of 2 other varchar columns.
when i added this column to my report, for some reason , report does not display any data when i run the report!! actually there is data as i run that view in query analyzer.
any ideas how to resolve this issue or investigate this problem ?
Thanks for your helplooks like i need to refresh "refesh fields" .after that everything worked nicelysql

report builder... click-through to a standard report (not a report builder based report)?

Hi,
In the administration page of RS2005, I see that its possible to specify a
target report for a click-through action.
but, does this report can be a standard reporting services report? (not a
report builder based report)
if yes, how this report must be configured to allow this type of
interaction?
thanks.
Jerome.ok, not sure i've understood your question as your english isn't that great
so i'll try and answer it.
i think you want to use the drill through function. So right click on the
item/text box/graph or whatever you want to drill through from and select
properties > Advanced > navigation > jump to report > pick a report to jump
to > parameters and assign the parameters.
right hope that answers your question, although this is a solution based on
rs2000 but can't imagine it is much differnt for rs2005.

yes my english is bad...
no, I really mean CLICK through NOT drill through.
The Click through feature is a report builder capability ("infinite click
through") which allow a user to navigate in the data without having to
create a new report by himself.
When the user click (for example) on the # Sales, the system automatically
display the list of these sales with the customer name for example. then the
user click on the customer name and a new report is automatically created to
display the complete detail information of this particular customer. then
the user can click and click etc... number of created report only 1! the
first, all the other reports are created automatically.
but... the administrator can play a little around this by adding information
in the model to open a specific report instead-of the automatically
generated, but this feature appear to works only with a report created with
report builder.
so my question is: can I setup a report builder model to open a standard
reporting services report instead-of the report builder auto-generated one?
and this is a 2005 feature, not a 2000 one.
if you have never tested this, try it now!!!! its really a excellent
feature.

report builder, which edition of 2005?

My question:
Does the end-user reporting tool (report builder) in Sql Server 2005 exist
in the Standard Version or is it only in the Enterprise Version?
I have found a couple of conflicting articles on the web.
Thanks in advance.Just Enterprise.
Not sure about development version. Previously that version was identical to
enterprise.

"This week, at Microsoft TechEd in Orlando, Florida, Microsoft turned a
complete 180 in the way the company will license SQL Server Reporting
Services and Report Builder. Microsoft was planning to include Report Builder

Report Builder Security Filter Examples

Does anyone have any examples on how to use the security filters in
report builder models. Do you setup a standard filter. How do you pass
the user back to the server in the query?
ThanksI have the same type of question...I need to be able to pass parameters
(userid) back to my model due to security setup in our system...we have
several 'user-access' tables for varying levels of security. For
example, any given user has access to specific accounts, but only
certain members within that account and only specific coverages within
those members. I don't see how I can set this up using roles but
perhaps I'm just missing it.|||the getuserid() function can be used... but... reportbuilder keep in cache
the first user which access a filter object where the getuserid() function
is used!!!
so if an "administrator" try the model, then every other users use the same
access!!!
but using the getuserid() into reportbuilder himself (the user create a
report and explicitly setup a filter) then the ID used is the right one, but
its not a good solution.
I'll do some other tests and keep you informed.

FYI, the incorrect behavior of the GETUSERID() function is a known issue
that is fixed in SP1, which will be available shortly.

Report Authenication

Hi,
I have the following scenario:
1) A database server (machine A, Windows 2000 Server Standard) within a
domain
2) A Reporting Server (machine B, Windows 2003 Server Standard) within the
same domain; the Reporting-Services-Database is also on the Database-server
3) My Client (windows XP) within the same domain.
My Problem: When I publisch a Report to the Reporting Server and I use
"Windows integrated Authentication", I get an error "NT-Authority/Anonymous
User" cant access the database. That's right, but why wouldn't be used my
Username/password instead of Anonymous? What have I to do, to pass my
Logonuser form XP over the Reporting-Services to the Database ? A always
thought "windows integrated authentication" in the shared Connection object
would be enough?
Thanks
HansIt sounds to me like you have IIS setup for anonymous access. When you do
this all users are the same user (the anonymous user as you see below). You
should only be doing this if you are implementing custom authorization.
Otherwise this is a really bad idea.

endpoints eg: client connects to remote RS web service which connects to a
remote database (3 endpoints) and tou're using Integrated security, NTLM
authentication will not work, you will have to setup a delegation scenerio
using kerberos authentication which supports more than one network hop. Look
here for help about setting up a asp.net app for delegation.

To test that this is your problem first access the report from the reporting
services console, this seems to cache your credential locally, now try from
your remote client try the same report, it should work until you log off the
rs server.

its the problem, Dan reports, because I have 3 Endpoints. I will test this.
Thanks again.

replication-log reader, dbcc reindex and transaction log backup.

We are using SQL 2K standard with sp4 and Push replication. Let me explain
my situation here first.
We have a weekly dbcc reindex happen at 3:05 am on Sunday morning and
finished successfully at 3:42 am. The replication - log reader started
issuing error in the log reader agent history, "The process could not execute
'sp_replcmds' on serverA..." starting at 3:14 am and being recurred every 6
minutes until 3:44 am. At that time, this error became red and stopped. Our
hourly transaction backup job kicked in at 3:45 am and took 10 minutes to
finish and normally it would take less than 20 seconds to complete. Later in
the morning, someone reported that they don't see any changed data replicated
to the subscriber server and indeed it wasn't working. All these activities
were on the same server, publishing server.
I have some questions regarding replication in this siutation.
1. Will the changes make by dbcc reindex be replicated to the subscriber
server? If so, will this explain the situation described above. if this is
the case, what should I do to minimize the effect of dbcc reindex to
log-reader? It is hard to believe someone would get up at 3:00 am Sunday
morning and making data changes which triggered the transactional
replication.
2. The weekend prior, with the same setup except no transaction log
backup (at that time, the backup mode was still set to simple), we didn't
encounter the 'sp_replcmds' error in the log reader agent. Is there any
relationship between the transaction log backup proces and log reader process
or they run independ of each other?
3. Why does the 'could not execute sp_replcmds' error occur and how to cure
this problem? Until this is solved, replication is down.
4. Is there a way I can schedule the Log Reader agent to stop and start at
a specific time?

1. Replication moves insert, update, and delete statements. That is all.
No other operation is moved through the replication engine in SQL Server
2000. If you reindex, it only occurs locally. When you reindex, you write
a huge volume of changes into the transaction log which does impact the
response time on the log reader since it has to scan through all of that
data. A change doesn't trigger replication. Replication constantly polls
for changes which have occured and moves anything that it finds.
2. There is not relationship between the log reader and a transaction log
backup. Replication only picks up transactions which have been committed.
A transaction log backup will not remove a committed transaction from the
log until it has been successfully written to the distribution database.
So, the Log Reader can have an impact on the size of the transaction log,
because if the log reader isn't running or can't transfer transactions to
the distribution database for some reason, then the tran log continues to
grow.
3. Is the error continuing to be thrown or was it a transient issue occuring
during the reindex operation?
4. The Log Reader agent is just a job. You can start it and stop it
whenever you want. You can even create a job to stop and start it at
particular times.
