Report Designer best practice

Hi
When creating a best practice enterprise reporting solution, would you
normally create report models first, use these as datasources in Report
Designer, andd create datasets on top of these? Or would you create datasets
using SQL queries directly from Report Designer?
What is the preferred/best practice way of creating the datasets ?

My preference is to create stored procedures first and then create
datasets based on those stored procedures in the Report Designer, etc;
since, stored procedures generally have better performance. Just my
thoughts. Hope this is helpful.

Sr. SQL Server Developer|||You can use report model as Datasource but this is meant for RB, for normal
reports, it is advisable to create stored proc and then create dataset. For
queries returning very small no of records, direct query will be good. As a
best Practise use shared datasource as far as possible, so that later if you
want to change any thing related to data source can be changed at one place
instead of many places.

Report Builder TOP1

I am trying to use report builder to generate a report that has multiple transaction. All I need is the most recent. normally I would use a select top1 in SQL but can not find anything in report builder that can accompish the same thing. Any ideas would be greatly appreciatedHat about using a named query in the DSV with the TOP 1 and order by clause in it.

Report Builder button doesn't appear....

Users must have permission to the Execute Report Definitions task (normally obtained via the System Users role) for the Report Builder button to be displayed.

I have run into a similar problem on my machine. The Report Builder button
never appears in my report manager home page.
I'm using Windows 2000 workstation with SQL Server 2005 (September)

I have run across. Please see text below that I posted elsewhere:
Report Builder button does not show when an upgrade to Reporting Services
2005 is completed. If a fresh install is done then no problem. I need to do
an upgrade for an existing Reports Server 2000 and want user to have the
Report Builder button. Some docuementation said to set
EnableReportDesignClientDownload to true, but did not say how to do this.
Another document said Enable Report Design Client Button is set to True in
RSWebApplication.config by default. However, this also did not show how to do
this. I need clear and exact step-by-step instructions.

button is when I'm logged onto the machine that's hosting RS.
Users that have all possible roles assigned do not see the button on
the web site.
How can I make the button visible?
