report does not come up in remote machine

Hello,
I embedded the report I developed to my asp.net web page,
when I run it in my development computer it is running
fine but I the report does not come up when I call web
page in a remote machine. The rest of web page is working
only report object is not coming. What might the problem
be?

access the report. You may need to give it sufficient privileges from Report
Manager UI.

Manager? If yes, when I click that it goes to
Http://mylocalhost/Reports and it says "You are not
authorized to view this page"

Report Designer 2005 and 2003 side by side?

When I installed SQL Server 2005 on my machine, VisualStudio 2005 was also
installed. I now have both 2003 and 2005 running. However, reporting service
projects are no longer available in the VS 2003 environment. Is it possible
to use both side by side?

>|||You can definitely do this. I just doubled checked. As long as you do not
open and convert the rdl files in RS 2005 designer you can still open and
edit them. What is happening is that the extensions are being registered for
RS 2005 designer. If you just double click on the solution or the project it
will open up RS 2005 designer. However, if you open up VS 2003 and select
open project and go to your project you can open and edit RS 2000 reports.
What I did was leave my RS 2000 project alone. Copied them over to another
directory and then opened all the reports and converted them to RS 2005.
Side by side definitely works.

Now to Design for SQL 2000 you use VS2003 and for SQL 2005 use VS 2005
all on the same box.
Have been successfully writing SQL 2000 reports in VS2003 since.
Having a nightmare trying to run the report manager for 2005 on my PC
after all of this as it won't let me deploy report models!
One of the other guys at work reckon it's due to sp2 for XP but have
tried and googled all ov er the place...|||Sorry, can't help you there.
Hmm, not sure why you ended up with the 2000 report designer removed. I
didn't have any of that happen to me.
Sorry, I can't help you with the report models. It very well could be
something with the firewall in SP2 on XP.

Report Deployment Problem

* Running SQL Server 2005 Enterprise on XP Pro *
After dealing with and solving some problems with the local ASPNET user and
it's rights to the report server config file and the database server I ran
into a report deployment problem:
I can preview the report in Developer Studio, but when I try to deploy it,
the operation ends with an error. The error indicates that the deployment
process is trying to use the guest IIS account to perform the operation...
Error 1 The permissions granted to user 'EDN-SCOTTT\IUSR_EDN-SCOTTT' are
insufficient for performing this operation. 0 0
1. Why is it trying to do a deployment using this account?
2. Where do I correct this problem by supplying the correct account
information?

ScottOn the report server, make sure that your Reportserver web site Anonymous
Access disabled, and Authentication Access set to Integrated WIndows
Authentication.
In Internet Explorer on your computer, put the Report server web site in
Trusted Sites, and turn on "Always prompt for username and password" under
the security settings.
Then make sure that your account is allowed to view and add reports to the
server, by going to the report server URL and try to log in and generally do
stuff. (If you get the Upload file-button, you should be allowed to add
reports.)
Try deploying the report again.

Report connect to AS cube

I cannot get my report to connect to my datacube. I've got RS running on a
web server and Analysis Services running on another server. The two servers
have an established relationship as i am currently able to run RS reports
against the SQL Server relational db's that exist on the server that is
running AS.
When i try to execute a report against a cube i get "cannot connect to the
server {myserver}. the server is either too busy or not started".
The connection string i am using is:
Provider=MSOLAP.2;Client Cache Size=25;Data Source={myserver};Auto Synch
Period=10000;Initial Catalog={mycatalog}
This all works fine in my dev environment where AS and RS run on the same
server.
What extra step am i missing to get my RS Web server to talk to my AS DB
server?

problem.I am unable to get the query designer, to type the MDX query to get
reports from my analysis server. I am using the Analysis server and web
server on the same machine.
When i am trying to create the report using SQL server relational db, i
am able to get the query designer. Please help me..

I was able to solve my problem. Turns out, port 2725 was not open between
my web and db servers. once i opened up that port everything runs fine.
As for your issue, if you are running version 1 of RS with sp1, it does not
support an mdx query designer. i believe that capability is scheduled for
the next release of Reporting services. For now, you just have to type the
mdx in, or use another mdx builder to get the query you need, and then
copy/paste it into rs.

Report Builder: Error 401

I'm looking for some help/suggestions on how to solve an authentication problem we're having running the ad-hoc reporting tool (Report Builder). Here's the background:

1. It actually installs a client footprint the first time it is launched, and requires .NET 2.0 framework on the client. Authentication to the Report Server is through Windows NT authentication, then additional Reporting Service security controls what rights the accounts have (including the right to use Report Builder).

2. Currently, Windows NT authentication works for providing access to the Report Server, running reports published to the server, and doing other admin functions related to Reporting Services.

3. We are having a problem with accounts not being able to run Report Builder even though they have the correct rights, and it appears to be related to the specific PC being used. Serveral of us have accounts that used to work on our PCs, but no longer work. But the same account will work when used on another PC (which was actually in the same DNR subnet). I've also had someone use my account on their machine, and it worked. We've had others that have never been able to run Report Builder, even though they have the rights to do so. Bellow are error details returned to the client when trying to run the application.

4. Since the problem seems to be machine related and one of the client requirements is the .NET 2.0 framework, I tried un-installing and re-installing this, but it didn't correct the problem.

5. This problem occurs both on both the development server and the new server we will be using for production.

Not sure what to do next...any ideas? Would a network trace help? Or is there any additional info on the Report Server log that would help? Microsoft support?

Let me know what you think, or if you think there are others that might be able to help.

Report Builder, Aggregation Scope and Running Values

Dear Anyone,

I need to create a measure/column that is percent of column (or row, not sure). In Reporting services, we were able to do this because aggregations there had scope.

=Sum(Fields!Open_Demand.Value)/Sum(Fields!Open_Demand.Value,"GSD")

I can't seem to do this in RB because the aggregation there does not seem to have a scope. Nor does it have the function running value.

Does anyone have an idea on how to do this on Report Builder?

Report Builder does not expose the scope parameter for aggregation. You can often get the same results, however, by including a separate field that retrieves the total for the set you want.

For example, you can create a (hypothetical) report like this:

Category | Product Name | Total Sales | % of Category

...if Category is an entity in your report model. If it is a lookup entity, you will need to turn on View->Advanced Mode in RB to see it.

Here's how:

Select Product Entity
Add Product Name field to report
Add Category field to left of Product Name
Add Sales->Total Sales to report TWICE
Right-click on the value cell of the second Total Sales field, choose Edit Formula
Type "/" after the Total Sales field in the formula textbox
Add Product->Category->Products->Sales->Total Sales to the formula
- this is the total sales for all products in the same category as this product
Click OK
Change the format on the second field from $ to %
Run the report

This will be notably slower than using RDL scoping, but it should work.

PS: Due to a known issue in RTM, the subtotals you display for the % field above will be incorrect. This will be fixed in SP1. Meanwhile, if you choose "Server Totals" in the Report->Report Properties dialog, you will get the correct subtotals as well.

I spent at lot of time on Friday getting the SelfSSL working on the system. It was set up with the name of the computer, I managed to get it working with ComputerName.domain.com/local etc.

I have just come back to Report builder and it now works!! I am writing this just incase it gives you a clue to how I managed to get it working

'Did you upgrade from RS2000 to RS2005? If so, prior to the upgrade, did you have any custom controls or third party controls you may have bought installed? That error message to me seems to say that the report is trying to show a control for which a dll (control source) does not exist. This would lead me to believe - based on you saying RS2000 worked before - that when you did an upgrade, you did not setup these custom controls. '

I spent at lot of time on Friday getting the SelfSSL working on the system. It was set up with the name of the computer, I managed to get it working with ComputerName.domain.com/local etc.

I have just come back to Report builder and it now works!! I am writing this just incase it gives you a clue to how I managed to get it working

Report Builder Error When Running Report

Hello everyone,

I've come across an unusual error on some of our machines. I'm trying to track down why only certain ones will give an error. I thought it might have something to do with .NET 2.0 not being installed, but I assume that they wouldn't even be able to launch Report Builder if this is the case. I'm at the point now where I've been told these machines have .NET 2.0. I plan on trying to verify soon, but I thought I'd get everyone's opinion on what it could be.

With even the simplist report (just 1 field dragged onto the report) the following error appears: "Report execution error The report might not be valid or the server could not process the data." When I clicked on the details, the following appears: "The numeric portion of 0pt cannot be parsed as a unit of type Point. -- The type initializer for 'Microsoft.ReportingServices.Design.Constants' threw an exception."

This model was created with Business Intelligence Development Studio and we're using SQL 2005 Enterprise.

Anyone have any thoughts on what this could be or how I can better troubleshoot it?

Alright, I think I've narrowed the problem down, although I still don't have a viable solution.

I had a similar problem with Analysis Services. The user could not browse a cube or dimension. We ended up solving this by recreating the user's profile.

Using that knowledge, I was working with someone from our desktop group today. We had the user who was having this unusual error try logging in on another machine. When she did this, the Report Builder worked perfectly. I am not personally well versed on how anything with profiles work, but it appears that the new profile that was put on the the new machine was different than the older one, and everything worked.

At this point I'm still stuck not knowing how to troubleshoot it any further. The desktop group is going to try to look at the profiles and determine what the differences might be, but I don't know how well that will work.

Re-creating everyone's profiles is not going to work (especially for what could be 100 users) and this will definately lose some of our user support. I understand this might not be the type of question for this group, but If anyone has come across a similar situation like this, I would appreciate some insight.

I'm fairly confident it doesn't have anything to do with the RDL/Report itself, but doing this allowed me to get some more details about what is happening.

I’m having trouble saving the report on that user’s computer.I have tried saving to a file and saving to the My Reports folder (this user has admin privs on the report server).It gives this error: Operation failed An error occurred while processing your request. Save your report and restart the application. The contents of the details section is the same as the first message I posted.

We tried one more thing.We attempted to close the report builder app (using the X on the toolbar) and it prompted to save.We clicked yes and we got a much more detailed stack trace.I have included this below. I excluded the assembly information.

|||This is probably a culture/language error. Double check your Language/Culture settings (in the control panel) on your machine and the language/culture settings of the computer running the Reporting Server where you downloaded Report Builder from.

I uninstalled and reinstalled everything and all looks to be good expect
when I click on the Report Builder button, nothing happens. No error
messages, no nothing.
I've tried making changes to roles and the configuration settings, but I
don't know what I did to really mess this up.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Report Builder and Report Server cross domain communication

I have client machine in one domain, say A domain , on which I have installed .net 2.0 without any problem. I have report server running in other domain (B domain) where I have deployed few models which will be used from domain A to create ad hoc reports by launching Report Builder. I can access other reports in domain B from A

But when I click on Report Builder ..it tries to connect to server in domain B but fails to connect and shows following log in a text pop up

I know, problem is because of cross domain communication but question is then how to fix it ? what changes I need to do for that in firewall, domain etc etc settings?

In IIS you should allow anonymous access to folder ReportServer/ReportBuilder folder and thats it....

One night's effort to fix a bug in 30 seconds...what a waste :-(

I am running into an error that I cannot seem to resolve. Basically, I am creating a report from a report model that I created within reporting services. So far I have been able to create a data source and then create a model based on it. So far, so good. I then go to report builder to create a report based on the model... again, so far, so good. However, I go to save it and get an error.

I was able to figure this out with the help of a PSS tech… Here are the Default SSRS permissions when using the "My Reports" feature: The path – "Home > Users Folders > ServerName ServerUserAccount >My Reports" shows the following permissions: Folder name \ permissions----------Home \ view foldersUser folders \ No permissionsServerName ServerUserAccount \ No permissionsMy Reports \ My Reports,

The fix was to add "View Folder" permissions to the "Users Folder" but it allows the "My Reports" feature to render useless as every user folder is now viewable by the specific user and/or group added to the "Users Folders" folder. I am still working with the PSS technician for a work around for that bug but I was able to get it working.

I had the same problem. Here's what worked for me. I'm still not sure it's the best way to solve it, but does seem to offer a little more security than the solution you indicated above. (That is, the "User's Folders" folder is not generically visible.)

The problem seemed to be that the Report Builder, by default, wanted to save in the "Models" directory. (I'm not sure why.) We just had to give *some* permission in that folder to the users; the least priviledged built-in role was "Report Builder" (which they already had anyway.) You may even be able to create a dummy role with no permissions and assign users to that role in the Models folder.

Anyhow, we created an "AdHoc Reporting" active directory group, and assigned that group the "Report Builder" role on the "Models" folder. Any user with the rights to run at least one report must be added to that group. They can now save reports in their "My Reports" folder. The only unfortunate thing is that now the "Models" folder is visible, but they can't see the items in their, or upload anything, or change permissions, so it seems secure.

I think you have given from Management studio?. Try from your
"http://<server>/reports" replace <server> with your server name.
Go to Home->properties and try giving your login and select content Manager
and see whether you are getting "Report Model" option.

Settings" > "Configure site-wide security" > "New Role Assignment" > check
the "System User" checkbox & add the user name or group name in the textbox.
Click "OK" and that's it.

Replication: any way to change table schema w/o reinitializing subscriptions -

I'm admitedly a bit new to the world of replication, so please bear with me. I've got two SQL Server 2000 servers running in different locations. Server A does transactional replication over a push subscription to server B. If I need to make a minor change to one of the replicated tables (for example, dropping a no longer used column or changing a varchar field's length) do I need to drop the subscription, make the changes and then re-initialize the schemas and data?

For minor changes, I really hate having to knock out the site runnign off server B while the subscription is re-initialized and data is bulk copied back over. If I want to just make the changes manually on both servers will that cause problems down the line?

-mYes, there are a number of ways to do this (run schizoid schemas), but they can be dangerous. Tampering with a subscriber schema will often force you to reinit all of the subscriptions to the affected tables.

Without knowing exactly what your configuration is, I'd only be guessing. With replication, guessing can be dangerous!

In SQL Server 7.0, if you have to change the schema of a replicated table, first you have to unsubscribe to all the publications, which are based on this table. Then, delete all the publications. Do the schema change. Republish the table and resubscribe. Whereas in SQL 2K its not required you can perform schema changes without re-defining replication.
