report creator

Hello everyone,

I have a report viewer on my webpage. but the users would like to be able to create there own reports. at the launch party I saw this was possible with a wizard. But I don't know how to make use of this.

Is this wizard a part of a sql server 2005 client perhaps ?
Or is it possible to use it together with Mysql...

Ok... I figured it out and already been testing a bit with reporting services.

It's the report builder I was looking for.

Report Builder will not launch

I am having problems launching the Report Builder. I click the button and nothing happens. I did see the other suggestions about re-installing the .NET 2.0 Framework but that did not help. I tried to launch it directly from the address bar and I am getting the same reponse as when I click on the Report Builder button. I can access the Report Builder from other machines and it works fine. I did just recently install IE 7 and I tried to uninstall it and go back to IE 6 but I got the same results.

Any help would be appreciated.

Does navigating to http://localhost/ReportServer/ReportBuilder/ReportBuilderLocalIntranet.application work? Try adding localhost to trusted sites.|||

I tried using this link http://localhost/ReportServer/ReportBuilder/ReportBuilderLocalIntranet.application and adding it to trusted sites and it did not work. Maybe I have some corrupted or missing files on my machine. Does anyone know what files I could possibly delete to make Reporting Services think I have never launched the Report Builder and have it re-update my machine.

Report Builder not working with Forms Authentication

We have successfully implemented forms authentication. The ReportServer and Report Manager both are working fine. However, when we launch the ReportBuilder using the url http://<server-name>/ReportServer/ReportBuilder/ReportBuilder.application or from the Report Manager, it prompts for user name and password. On entering the valid user-name and password, it gives the following error.

The attempt to connect to the report server failed. Check your connection information and that the report server is a compatible version.

It doesnt accept any user-name, password (neither forms one, nor windows). This error is when we are trying to access Report Builder on the server (not tried on the client machine). The user-name has been given System Administrator and System User role. We have also given the Content Manager, Browser, ... etc all roles to the user.

However, we are testing this on June CTP. Is this a problem ?

This is very urgent as the rest all is working fine. Any suggestions ?

If I remember correctly, this was a bug that we fixed before the RTM release of RS 2005. If you upgrade to RTM - or better yet, to SP1, this should work.

Report Builder Fails to Launch

Good day:

I've searched and found a whole lot of information regarding Report Builder's occasional failures to launch, but every single suggestion has not worked for me. I'll try to describe this as completely as possible.

PC 1: Login with my user id, navigate to either my test or production report server, click 'Report Builder'; application launches and can be used as expected. Login with a 2nd user id, and it works. OS is Win2003 Server. Because both logins work on this PC, which tells me the security credentials are set correctly.

PC2: Login with my user id, navigate to either my test or production report server, click 'Report Builder'; application fails to launch. I do not receive an error message or dialog. The 'frames' for the Report Builder form flash momentarily on the screen. Login with same 2nd user id, and it fails the same way. OS is WinXP SP2; all updates.

PC3: Login with my user id, navigate to either my test or production report server, click 'Report Builder'; application fails to launch. I do not receive an error message or dialog. On PC2 and PC3, I navigate to the ClickOnce cache in my profile, right-click and 'run as' the reportbuilder.exe file. Choosing 'run as' my login and providing a password -- voila -- the application runs. I have to manually set the link to the report server, but it appears all else works fine. Same situation when I use my 2nd user id. If I don't 'run as' and provide the password (just double-click to launch the file), I get the same 'flash frames' above.

Ultimately, the push is to get PC2 and PC3 to function as does PC1. My resident .NET expert is stumped, as am I. Please help.

I must not have provided enough information. What do I need to post in order to explain this situation better?

The troubleshooting has begun.

WinXP SP2 w/o all the updates or .NET. Click 'Report Builder', which errors that I don't have .NET 2.0. Download and install redistributable package -- voila -- report builder works. Note there is nothing else on the box except WinXP SP2 and .NET 2.0.

This leads me to conclude that there's something in one of the patches from MIcrosoft that is preventing the report builder from working. PC2 ( from my original post ) has all the latest patches as well as a bunch of applications. PC3 has all the latest patches with SQL Server 2000 SP4 and Office 2007. Neither PC2 nor PC3 can run Report Builder. I'm now on PC4.

It's either a patch from microsoft causing this issue, or the order in which the patches were applied. I'm going to be testing the Report Builder after every installed patch ( yes -- I am that interested in getting to the bottom of this that I'd download over 75 patches one at a time ).

If I find anything, I'll post again.

So apparently the software for a Kensington Trackball will prevent a .NET 2.0 ClickOnce application from launching. Like Report Builder. No kidding. I've uninstalled the tracball software and Report Builder works. Reinstalled the tracball software, Report Builder fails to launch. Uninstall the tracball software (leaving it off this time) Report Builder works.

Report Builder (rsaccessdenied) error message

I have created a Report Model and published it on our QA environment Report Server(Where I dont have admin access). When I try to launch the Report Builder tool and create a sample report and Run the report it gives me this error. "The permissions granted to user 'Domainname/user group' are insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied)" I checked with the Admins on this server the usergroup has a "Browser" Role. I had read on some online fourm that if user group has browser role it should work. But I cant get it work any help is appreciated.

I have published the same Report Model in Deveploment environment report server(where I have admin access) and when I do the same thing I am able to run the reports.

Some one please help me its causing delay in our testing.

I think you need the report builder role. Not just browser, that is not enough permission.

Ok we tried giving the role Report Builder to the user and Report Builder Role has these tasks assosicated - Consume Reports,Manage Individual Subscriptions,View Folders,View Models,View reports,View resources. Even after giving this role it did not work. So we even selected all the tasks under Report Builder Role just for testing this did not work either.

Here is the exact scenario: when I get the error message it says this user's "IHS-T-CRRSWQ-01\IUSR_WFS-4376A9A5D75" permission granted is insufficient this user is the one which is running on IIS. But this is one of the user under user group "NT AUTHORITY\Authenticated Users" which has Report Builder Role. I am really getting into circels here any help appreciated.

Report Builder

Hi,

I have an asp.net page and i want people to be able to be able to launch report builder from there. This works when i am on the server, but when i am not i get a permissions error. I am not sure exactly what account is trying to access report builder. So i guess my question would be how do i find out what account is trying to access it and second how can i grant access to it. I want whoever uses the asp..net web application to be able to access report builder.

I too am haveing trouble with the permissions error. I found thisRole Assignments for Report Builder Access
But to add the role, as mentioned hereHow to: Create, Delete, or Modify a Role (Management Studio) I do not have the "System Roles" branch within Management Studio.

I think this may be because I have an older version of SQL Server 2005...not sure, it is however an evaluation version.
